The Circuit Game
The Investigation Question for The Circuit Game is prompted by the removal of one bulb in a string of lights wired in series. This question, “Why did all the lights go out?” is answered in an investigation led by two characters—the handyman and the scientist. In the show’s Act-It-Out, a working series circuit is modeled by volunteers who play the part of electrons, light bulbs, and the battery wired in series. Once completed, the children use the Act-It-Out to explore the answer to a second question, “How can the circuit be rewired to allow the bulbs to stay lit when one bulb is removed?” Assessment consists of a questionnaire and concept question about circuits distributed before and after the show.
